At Avdaye, we add lots of tips in all of our recipes – because we are a home cook without any formal training, and we find we are more confident making dishes when we understand why it works, and what each ingredient means to the flavor of a recipe. Our goal is for even the most beginner home cook to feel empowered in the kitchen.
Reeses Cookie Spiders
We love peanut butter and chocolate – it is a good, classic combination that everyone loves at Halloween. We don't know about you, but our first candy to be gone every Halloween is always Reeses!
This cookie is a fun and good way to bring everyone's favorite Trick or Treat classic into an adorable dessert that is solid to serve at parties – it is easy to serve, adorable, you can use pre-made cookies (or use a favorite recipe like our chewy chocolate chip cookies or our soft baked sugar cookies).
How to Make Spider Cookies
To make these cookies, you will need:
- Mini Reeses peanut butter cups
- Chocolate chips or other melting chocolate
- Candy eyes
- Cookies
- Piping bags
Once you've gathered your ingredients and tools, you will follow this process:
- Prep. Melt chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 30 second bursts and add to piping bag. Take reeses cups out of wrappers.
- Decorate. Pipe a large dot of chocolate onto cookie to secure peanut butter cup onto cookie. Place peanut butter cup down to “glue” to cookie. Pipe chocolate onto backs of candy eyes, and secure onto peanut butter cups. Then pipe four legs per side of peanut butter up to complete spider.
- Enjoy! Let set for at least 30 minutes.
Kitchen notes
Let chocolate cool slightly. If you find your eyes sliding down the peanut butter cups, let the chocolate cool a little bit so it is thicker.
Use a microwaveable piping bulb. We love microwaving or boiling chocolate in a double boiler in a microwaveable piping bulb. They are easy to clean and simple to use – not microwave the metal tip. Buy one here.
