Keto Everything Seasoned Asparagus

We love everything bagels, we remember when they first started selling the seasoning in the spice section and we bought as many as we could and tried it on everything! While we can't say we recommend everything bagel seasoning on ice cream, it goes well with oven roast veggies.

Everything Bagel Seasoned Asparagus Ingredients

First assemble the following ingredients:

  • Asparagus – you want to go with fresh asparagus and trim the ends. Asparagus has a mild sweet flavor and soaks up the olive oil and seasoning well.
  • Olive oil – oil will add richness to the asparagus and help the seasoning and salt stay on them. You want to use a rich oil that is dark in color. Beware of colored glass olive oil bottles that try to make low quality olive oil look dark.
  • Everything Bagel seasoning – everything bagel seasoning is a mix of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried onion flakes, and kosher salt. You can make your own mix if you prefer. This seasoning adds a lovely flavor but also a crunch.
  • Sea Salt – We always use a fine grain sea salt since it seasons things evenly. Salt will enhance the flavor of the asparagus.

Kitchen notes

Check out these tips and tricks for mastering this recipe.

Add more seasonings. If you want to add more of a kick you can add a sprinkle of onion powder and/or garlic powder. Since everything bagels have fresh garlic and onion in them it will help enhance the flavor. You can also add some red pepper flakes for a little heat.

Spread Out. Avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lead to soggy asparagus and uneven cooking.

Add Citrus. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the asparagus after roasting to brighten the flavors.

Don't overcook. If you cook the asparagus too long they will be limp and overly soft. You want them to still have a bright green color and a bite. Test for doneness by sticking a fork in them and if it goes through easily they are done.

Heat. For a spicier version, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes before baking.

Add cheese. If you want to go full bagel, feel free to spread some soft cheese over your asparagus, you can use cream cheese or our favorite – Boursin.

Everything Bagel Asparagus FAQs

What's the best way to keep leftovers?

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. They will be softer when reheated but still tasty.

How do you use leftovers?

We like to add leftover asparagus over a salad for a hearty lunch. Yum!

How do we know when the asparagus is done?

The asparagus is ready when it is tender-crisp and easily pierced with a fork, with lightly browned tips and edges.

Should we trim the asparagus before baking?

Yes, trim or snap off the woody ends before cooking to ensure the asparagus is tender and pleasant to eat.

Can we add cheese to this recipe?

Absolutely! Parmesan cheese is a popular addition and can be sprinkled over the asparagus during the last few minutes of baking.

Can we cook this in an air fryer?

Yes. Cook the seasoned asparagus in a preheated air fryer at 375°F–400°F for about 6–8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the spears.

How do we keep asparagus from getting soggy?

Arrange the spears in a single layer on the baking sheet and avoid overcrowding, which can cause the asparagus to steam instead of roast.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, ends trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning, or more/less to taste
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt

Method

  1. Heat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Place the trimmed asparagus on the baking sheet and drizzle evenly with the olive oil. Toss briefly so that the asparagus are evenly coated in the oil. Then arrange them back out in an even layer, and sprinkle evenly with the everything bagel seasoning.
  3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the asparagus reaches your desired level of tenderness.
  4. Taste and season with extra salt if needed.
