Festive Pear and Gin Fizz Cocktail

This festive pear and gin fizz cocktail has all the same components of a gin fizz, but it's infused with a deliciously sweet pear juice. Classic gin fizz cocktails use an egg white to make frothy and fizzy, but this good twist uses tonic water, which is carbonated, to give it that fizziness. Not only does tonic water add carbonation, but it contains quinine and sugar to give your cocktail a good sweet and tart flavor.

This cocktail is suited to spring or fall weather, and pairs beautifully with fall and winter holidays. It can easily be doubled and whipped up for Thanksgiving or Christmas gatherings.

How To Make A Pear and Gin Fizz Cocktail

Whipping up a good pear and gin fizz cocktail is so easy, and you only need 5-ingredients. Here's what you need:

  • Ice– You can use ice cubes or crushed ice. It's all about your preference. We prefer crushed ice.
  • Gin– You can use whatever Gin you prefer, but Hendrick's Gin is deemed one of the best for this cocktail. It pairs nicely with the tonic water.
  • Pear juice– Choose any concentrated pear juice you prefer. You could also use pear juice from canned pears, and add the pears as a garnishment to the cocktail.
  • Lemon juice– Lemon juice adds another layer of flavor. If you don't have lemon juice, lime juice would be a good substitute.
  • Tonic water– Tonic water gently intensifies the gin's natural taste and adds a bit of bubbly to your cocktail.

This recipe makes 2 tumbler sized cocktails, but can easily be doubled or tripled for a crowd. Here's how you make it:

  1. First, fill 2 tumbler glasses half full with ice.
  2. Then, pour the gin, pear juice, and lemon juice over the ice. Stir it with a spoon or swizzle stick.
  3. Finally, top your glasses off with tonic water and stir to combine.
  4. Add pear slices, and or thyme sprigs as a garnish if you choose.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Kitchen notes

  • You can substitute the pear juice with pear syrup however you will need to reduce the amount to 1 ounce.
  • The tonic water can be substituted with soda water or lemonade.
  • The thyme can be substituted with rosemary.
  • Use fresh pears to garnish for an even better taste. To get the decorative pear slices we used a sharp knife to cut a thin slice from the middle section either side of the stem.

A few answers

How long does this recipe take to make?

As long as you have all the ingredients on hand, this recipe will only take you 5-minutes. In 5-minutes, you'll have two good pear and gin fizz cocktails to enjoy.

Can we store leftovers?

We recommend only making what you will drink. If it's you, half the recipe and make one glass at a time. If you want to whip up a batch for people to enjoy as they need, mix up the gin, pear juice, and lemon juice and place it in a pitcher in the fridge. When someone wants a glass, pull out the ice, pour the mixture over the top of the ice and top it with tonic water.

Can we double the recipe?

Absolutely! As stated above, if you want to make enough for a crowd, you can mix the gin, pear juice, and lemon juice together in a pitcher after doubling or tripling the ingredients based on the number of people. Then, add ice to each glass, pour the mixture over the top, and top it off with tonic water.

Do we have to use pear juice and fruit?

Nope! If you aren't a fan of pears, you can use other fruit juices and fruit instead. Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, and raspberries all pair well with gin. Any sweet berry or fruit balances out the tart flavor of the tonic and the juniper of the gin.
